    All together now ...

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier enables you to do what generations of guitar players have been waiting for: to capture the soul of all your amps (and so many more) inside a lunchbox-sized amplifier.

So, how does it work? We use cutting edge technology to capture the sonic DNA of virtually any guitar amp. The resulting Profiles are as living, vivid and dynamic as the original amps.

Imagine you’ve used some sweet-sounding, well-maintained vintage tube amps in your last studio session: With the Kemper Profiling Amplifier, there’s no need to leave those sounds behind anymore. Simply create your own Profiles from these amps and take them with you to use anywhere you like. Variations with alternative amp settings can be created and even the cabinet of a profiled combo amp can be exchanged at any time. Dozens of pro-grade onboard effects and stomp boxes can be used to spice up the Profiles. We even give you Profiles of many exceptional signature amps.

Any amp. Any time. Anywhere. We mean it.

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier received a MIPA award for  "Best innovative product" in 2012

    Yet to be finished:
    - Performance Mode
    - Undo/Redo
    - Selective Browse (Soon it will be directly browse through all cabs of all rigs. We call it Selective Browse, and it will also be available for amp, eq, stomps and effects. It will look the same as browsing through the local presets). Those funktions will soon be available by firmware update.

This is what you can do with the Kemper Profiling Amplifier:

Enjoy the great profiles and rigs that come with it.

They were created by professional guitarists, engineers and producers in studios all over the world. Right out of the box, you will find classic tones of studio standards as well as profiles of highly sought-after amplifiers, some costing many times the price of the Profiling Amplifier.

    The growing library

We will be working tirelessly to create new profiles for you to download for free from our website. All the profiles we create are extracted from real amplifiers and cabinets, each with a distinct personality of its own. To take the profiles, we employ the exact same techniques an engineer would use to create a great guitar tone in the studio, so you can be sure to receive the most authentic sounds from a digital guitar amp, ever!

Create your own profiles from your own amps

If you happen to have access to tube amps, feel free to make your own profiles. You will probably feel more familiar with profiles of your own gear, than with those other people have made.

It might be also a nice idea to hire a professional studio for a day or two, where you can create your signature profiles with the help of an experienced sound engineer. You then have the luxury of being able to use these profiles wherever you like, and with no time constraints.

If you are tracking in a studio, you should profile the guitar amps that you record with. Later, you simply take these profiles with you and know that you can recreate the exact sound of the recording, both in the rehearsal studio and live on stage.

    Share your own creations

If you are looking for a particular sound, search the Rig Exchange database on our website, and download profiles and rigs from fellow users.

So much more than just flicking channels

Play completely different amp models rather than just switching amp channels on stage! Imagine playing the verse with a sparkling profile of a 1965 black-faced 2x12" combo, done in a premiere studio in Nashville, while burning through the solo with a hot-rodded, British 100Watts monster, driving a 4x12" cab you just profiled last week in your buddy's rehearsal space. How cool is that?

    What is Profiling?

“Profiling” is what we have named our proprietary technology that captures the sound and feel of a specific tube amplifier. In other words, the Kemper Profiling Amplifier doesn’t simply give you a list of static digital amplifier reproductions. Instead, profiling creates a vivid, living, dynamic and multi-dimensional image of your existing tube amp.

Profiling is as simple as plugging your tube amp into the Kemper Profiling Amplifier and pressing ‘record.’ Just insert the Kemper Profiling amplifier into the recording chain and it will do its magic. Test signals will be sent from the Kemper Profiler Amplifier into your tube amp and recorded by the microphone in front of your cabinet.

You don’t even have to play your guitar. After less than a minute the Kemper Profiling Amplifier acquires the sonic DNA of your tube amp and offers you the resulting custom profile. You can then use the A/B comparison mode to compare original tube amp sound with the profiled sound. This gives you a fast and convenient way to make final tweaks to the profile to get it exactly right.

    Amp Controls

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier includes the standard Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble and Presence controls that you would expect from an guitar amplifier. However, in contrast to many vintage amps, we have kept the gain control neutral, so you are able to find the sweet spot of your amp, and run this optimal sound at any gain level.

The gain control ranges over 80dB and features an automatic volume compensation for clean settings.

Now, imagine if you could change the sonic character of a profile way beyond what’s possible with the amp itself...What if you could change the sonic age of the amp, or the bite of the pick? What if you could modify the power supply of your profiled amp in order to benefit from power sagging or be larger than life? With the Kemper Profiling Amplifier, you can! We allow you to dynamically adjust key aspects of your favorite amps which would otherwise be impossible or require hardware modifications. You can do anything from minor tweaks, such as making your Marshall Bluesbreaker profile sound a bit more vintage, to more radical changes such as adding some modern high gain chunk to your vintage Fender®®® Bassman®®®.

    Control way beyond the usual

    • The Amp Definition parameter determines whether the Profile leans more towards a vintage or modern character. Increase this parameter to intensify the touch response of the virtual tubes.
    • Power Sagging: this parameter lets the tubes breathe with your playing; damped strings will have more ”chug,” and clean, picked notes will cut through better when you reduce your playing volume.
    • The Pick parameter controls the attack of your pick independently of the gain setting—even through heavy distortion. This innovative parameter lets you decouple your pick sound from the natural compression of the distorting tubes and cut right through the mix.
    • The Amp Compressor will sustain the clean guitar when you play soft, but lets the distorted sound through, unprocessed, when you revert back to normal playing volume.
    • The Cabinet Voicing parameters give you access to the guts and the character of the cabinet. You can change the size of your virtual cabinet, tune the bass resonance or control the tonal character in an creative way.

    The Stack

    The Amplifier Section

The Amplifier section is the heart of the Kemper Profiling Amplifier. The sound of the amplifier is based on the profile loaded into the rig. A great selection of intuitive and powerful macro parameters empowers you to perform modifications which are impossible with an traditional hardware amplifier.

Many things become possible from changing the age of the virtual hardware to the response to your play. You gain direct access to tube settings, such as the tube symmetry.

    The Equalizer Section

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier is equipped with a traditional bass / mid / treble / presence equalizer similar to what you already know and love from many amp heads. We found that many equalizers used in the tone stack section of more or less famous amplifiers lack of grip and blur your sound in an unnecessary fashion.

That's why we've decided to go with our own, original design which is based on a traditional tone stack but delivers what you expect from a modern pro-grade equalizer.

    The Cabinet Section

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier captures the cabinet as a part of a profile. Thanks to digital alchemy we can distinguish in between the cabinet and the amp head within a profile and therefore enable you to mix and match both in which ever way you like. Imagine you can exchange cabinets freely in between amps, even though those amps were combo amps before. You can even warp cabinets from "tiny as a cigarette box" to "larger than life" with one parameter.

    The Effects

    The Stomp Boxes

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier offers 4 independent stomp effects slots which can host a full arsenal of stomp box effects including painstakingly modeled famous overdrive and distortion stomp boxes, compressor, reverb, several delays, and a beautiful rotary speaker emulation.

We’ve also created accurate models of classic retro modulation effects such as a variety of chorus, phaser and flanger pedals. All stomp effects can be edited and copied conveniently between presets. And for your overview and convenience, we use color coded LEDs indicating which type of stomp has been used per slot.

Looping In and Out External Effects

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier includes an external effects loop which you can patch in anywhere among the virtual stomps boxes. The location and other details can be stored per rig. The monitor outputs also can serve as a pure analog buffer amp for re-amping.

    The Master Section

The master effects section features reverb, delay and additional slots for stomp boxes and studio effects to refine your amplifier’s tone. The six knobs on the front panel offer convenient access to the most important settings. The reverb section features a dense and lively reverb algorithm which won’t mask the original signal. The delay section features several tape and stereo delay algorithms which can be synched to MIDI clock.

    Get Connected

    The Input Stage

Thanks to a Hi-Z input optimized for passive guitar pickups, the Kemper Profiling Amplifier offers a crystal clear signal path. We use only professional-grade analogue components to ensure that your guitar tone remains unchanged.

We include a single-knob smart noise gate on the front panel that is completely transparent. It’s faster than any other noise gate we have experienced and doesn’t need an adjustment of the release time. Damping a string results in immediate silence.

    The Output Stage

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier features two independent main outputs which can be used in multiple ways. The mains feature a balanced studio level connection and a parallel pair or TSRs. The monitor output optionally provides the amplifier’s sound without the cabinet. This proves beneficial for musicians with an existing power amp / cabinet on stage.

    Ground Lifts

In order to seamlessly integrate the Kemper Profiling Amplifier into an existing studio and live sound environment, we’ve included several ground lifts to allow you to easily deal with possible hum and grounding problems.

    Manage your performance in style

    Browse Rigs and Perform

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier comes with two play modes. The “Browser” mode assists you in quickly finding the right rig thanks to its sophisticated sort and search functions. The “Perform” mode arranges your rigs according to the set list you’ll play tonight. Perform mode focuses on overview - think of a Performance like a lead sheet which allows you to collect, order and name all the rigs you need for a certain song.

In both modes the bright LCD display gives you a full overview of the chosen rig. The six rotary encoders below the display become controllers for the gain, EQ, and master volume.

    The Archive

The Kemper Profiling Amplifier makes it easy for you to share your personal library with other users. Rigs and Profiles are small files which include your name and numerous other details which can be used to filter and search for a specific rig. You can then exchange profiles either through the official Kemper-Amplifier website profile exchange, emails, or other online forums and services. The Profiler is equipped with intuitive search and filter functions allowing you to maintain a great overview of the growing library of custom profiles and rigs from around the globe.

    Editing with a breeze
    Analog endless potentiometers

The analogue endless potentiometers offer the best of both worlds. They provide the smooth feel and high resolution of an analog pot, yet are as intuitive to use as a rotary encoder. Need to increase a value? Simply turn the knob to the right - no need to worry about the current position. You have precise control over your sound, yet can still make extreme value changes with a single rotation. In other words, those are engineered for musicians, not for technicians.

    LED color code

The status lights of the stomp boxes and effects on the front panel can change their color depending on the category of effect chosen. For instance, distortion effects are red, compressors are represented by a turquoise LED. This little details enhances your overview greatly. You can literally just look at the Profiler without reading the display and you already know which stomp boxes shape the sound.

    Undo

When designing sounds, you often move one step forward and two step back again. As one idea triggers the next one you refine your original idea and change your mind. The Kemper Profiling Amp offers multiple undo and redo steps so you can always return to a previous stage. It also introduces the concept of snapshots.

Snapshots are backups of entire rigs and those are automatically generated for everything that would be lost otherwise. For instance, a snapshot is created when you store over an existing rig. This way you can go back to what you’ve overwritten earlier on at any point in time.

    The Lock Button

Lock allows you to secure a certain aspect of a rig against overwriting. Here’s an example: You’re planning to play a lick with a specific tempo sync’ed delay. You’re happy with the delay settings but unsure about the amp and cabinet you’re using.

There are many applications for the Lock function:

Keep the amp section unchanged while browsing through the effect settings of the presets. Or the opposite: Keep the effects while browsing through the amp settings of the presets. Lock a compressor stomp in the stomp section for every preset, as long as you want. Make individual settings (gain, noisegate) for two or three guitars in the input section, that remain unchanged when you change presets. Switch off delay and reverb on every preset for a day in a studio, where you might use outboard equipment.

Copy and Past are designed to copy stomp boxes in between slots or rigs. In fact you can pretty much copy everything between every logical destination -it doesn’t matter if it’s a stomp box, a rig or a performance.

    ... Did you know?

    Connect yourself

The Hi-Z input makes sure every nuance of your playing comes through, and that your volume and tone pot settings work just as you would expect. This is also why your trusty old stompboxes work so well in front of the KPA.

    Just grab a knob...

14 endless analogue potentiometers allow quick and easy control over the sound, without the irritating 'gear ratio' feeling.

    The way to 're-amping'

The KPA has a built-in analog splitter that mirrors your DI signal to the direct out. Record this dry signal to a separate track, and you can re-amp it later, should you desire to do so.

    No more buzz

In case you're encountering nerve-wracking hum due to ground loops, use one of the four ground-lift switches to eliminate the problem. This is especially helpful should you want to use the '4 Cable Method' (4CM).

    Play it live

The monitor output supplies a cab sim free signal for your power-amp and cabinet on stage, while the FOH receives your signal with the cab sim intact.

    Augmented reality

80dBs of available gain for the amp simulation lets you clean up a distorted profile or push a clean profile into overdrive.

    Color coded

Distortions are red, a chorus is blue... Effect types are represented by different LED and display colors, for a intuitive editing experience.

    Add effects

Accurate models of classic, retro modulation effects and famous overdrive/distortion pedals. Wah, tremolo, delay, reverb and much more. Add up to eight effects at the same time.

    Quiet when it should be

The smart & transparent noise gate is easily adjustable via the front panel.

    Integrate external gear

Use the effects loop to integrate stompboxes or rack effects in your rig, at any point in the signal chain.

    Smooth transitions

Automatic spillover lets delay and reverb decay naturally when you change rigs.

    Lock it!

Lock any number of modules to keep their exact settings when you change rigs. This is ideal if you're curious to hear what your favorite Screamer setting sounds like in front of other amp profiles, for example.

    Future proof

Our frequent firmware updates will always be free of charge and a new OS version will never alter the sound of your existing rigs.

    Echo and reverb separation

Delay and reverb can be adjusted from serial to parallel configuration - and to anywhere in between.

    No fan

Since the unit is cooled passively, there is absolutely no fan noise to disturb you, even in the quietest of studio environments.

    Sounds of the professionals

Right from the start the KPA comes equipped with more than 200 profiles, featuring vintage classics, modern high-gain amps and rare boutique items. These profiles were made by top engineers and producers in premiere studios around the world.

Share your profiles, download new amps

The KPA user community has already created and shared hundreds of profiles, all of which are easily accessible via the Kemper homepage.

    Remote
Designed to work seamlessly with Profiler

Profiler Remote is the quintessential foot controller for your Profiler. We’ve spent a tremendous amount of time to create a versatile and yet easy to operate floor board. The tight integration in between Profiler and Remote allows you to control, administer and program without any knowledge about MIDI or delving through cryptic data sheets.

The large, illuminated display is designed to be looked at from a distance and Remote's housing is built like a tank. Just what the doctor orders for touring musicians on dark stages.

Five buttons allow you to directly access five different programs ("Rigs") and entire performance programs can be switched using a bank system. There are dedicated buttons to access the tuner, tap tempo in and enable the new, exclusive Looper Effect.

Remote connects via a single Ethernet cable to your Profiler. No extra power supply in needed and the included cable is 7 meters long (21ft). Longer cables are possible as well.

Up to four continuous foot pedals can control multiple parameters inside your Profiler. Four buttons switch of stomps and effects. The programming required is easier to learn than putting a new contact into your cell phone. Click to choose, assign, done.

    The Looper

There is something magic about loopers. Doesn’t matter if you use them to create layered worlds of sound or to rehearse the complex middle-8 of your last composition.

With a single click on a button, Remote turns into a fully fledged Looper control station. Loops can be recorded, overdubbed and deleted by using the buttons on the board. You can reverse, halftime and undo takes. The maximum duration of a loop is thirty seconds. The Looper is exclusively available to Remote users.

    Programming Remote

Four buttons, which can be assigned individually for every program, can control multiple stomp effects at the same time. In order to associate an effect with a button, all you need to do is: Press a stomp button on your Profiler and hold the button of your choice on Remote at the same time. Done.

    Made with touring in mind

Remote connects to Profiler with a single cable. We are using a Neutrik®®®® etherCON® connector to ensure the most robust connection possible on stage. By using a powered ethernet hub, distances in excess of 100 meters (300ft) can be bridged with a simple Ethernet cable.

    Controllers and switches

The four TRS connectors on the rear panel can be used for continuous controllers and switches. Each controller can be freely assigned per program. Multiple assignments per controller are also possible. Status color LEDs give you a great overview on assignments and purpose of a switch/pedal.

    Administer other equipment

Remote allows you to control external MIDI gear by sending program change messages utilizing the MIDI output of your Profiler.
